The big initiative towards saving the energy resources and shifting towards the renewable energy has been taken by Indian Railways on 13 may 2016 in Jodhpur,by doing the trial run of the train which would use solar energy as power.
The cost of Indian railways will come down drastically down on fuel and it will help to protect the environment also from the pollution. 3 amazing fact about this are:
1. Solar energy usage: The energy generated using solar panel will be first used for the functioning of fans, lights, and ac in the coaches.
2. Cost effective: This will help in reducing the consumption of diesel by 90000 liters per year and emission of carbon would be reduced by 200 tons a year. “Solar energy will be used to meet the electricity needs in moving trains, and reduce diesel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions,” Arora said. Saving per year per coach: 1.24 lacs.
3. Functioning: Each coach will have 12 panels on the rooftop which will help in generating the solar energy for the coach. “As the pilot project, one non-AC coach has been fitted with solar panels on the rooftop. The trial has been successful so far with the coach generating nearly 17 units of electricity every day. Depending on its success, decision will be taken to convert the entire train into a solar power enabled one,” Arun Arora.
