The government of India sanctioned INR 1345 crore to tackle the drought situation and meet the water scarcity problem in Rajasthan. "An amount of Rs 911.64 crore has been released to the state under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), after adjustments of the state balances. This is in addition to Rs 827.25 crore released as Central share of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for 2015-16 to the state. A further amount of Rs 434.25 crore has been released as the first instalment of SDRF for 2016-17," PMO Official.
In Rajasthan, the situation is very serious since 19 out of 33 districts are facing the drought-like situation. The government also insisted on the solutions like Rain Water Harvesting!
What is Rain Water Harvesting?
Rainwater harvesting is a method of collecting and storing the rain water for the future usage purpose the water is collected in big tanks or deep pit , the collected water is useful for irrigation purpose, Livestock, it can also be used for domestic use and drinking after treating it properly, and it’s a very successful technique for recharging the ground water level which is going down drastically day by day.
Why we need rain water harvesting?
The groundwater gets recharged automatically by the way of percolation. In today’s scenario, the same has become tougher due to rapid urbanization the soil area has decreased.
Rainwater harvesting also helps into to slower the process of soil erosion. By rainwater harvesting at one hand water resources would be available in the other situations like drought would be reduced over a period of time.
There are two ways it can be done:
1: Rooftop rainwater harvesting.
2: Surface runoff harvesting.
